Tokina 14-20 2.0 or Sigma 18-35 1.8

I currently have a canon T4i and am very interested in doing night/milky way photography with some desire for daytime landscape photos.   Do you have any recommendations on which of these you would pick as your primary lens for these purposes.   As you can probably guess, I am torn between the lower focal length of the Tokina but also like the slightly better aperture of the Sigma and its greater focal range. Since I have virtually no photo experience I am not certain how to weigh the trade offs. Is the lower focal range of the tokina worth giving up the greater range and better aperture of the Sigma (plus sigma is about $100 more expensive right now)?   On a side note, is a T4i even able to utlize these lenses to their fullest or am I putting a Ferrari engine in a Ford body (so to speak) and therefore wasting my money?

Thanks

I'm not a Tokina fan, to limited lens selections, hard for me to take them as serious contender.  I think sigma and Tamron have been doing a good job with their lens eco system and investing into newer versions, so my vote is on the the Sigma.

I'm going to agree with you.  Sigma is just doing a great job with most of their lenses these days.  I'm going to say, go with the Sigma as well.  In this case 18mm is perfect for wides, the f/1.8 is plenty fast too.
