"Program" mode on Sony A7R?

Good morning.  Can someone tell me what is this mode for?  Seems like a "Auto" mode?   Am I correct?  If so, do pro's use this mode for anything?

I guess an advanced auto mode. One program would be sports, it puts the priority to shutter speed to freeze action and prevent motion blur. Portrait mode opens up the aperture so the background is blurred which focuses you on the subject.

Sorry, that was scene mode Program mode allows you to adjust aperture and shutter speed. And yes it is an auto type mode (not manual) So, you can change the shutter speed or the aperture and it maintains auto exposure. I know pros who do use it in changing light conditions. Manual mode will not change from frame to frame but if the sun goes behind a cloud, your exposure would change. P mode is automatic and will change the exposure if the sun goes behind a cloud.
