today i just got my new len too i have a 500-1000mm mirror len. and last week i also got a new len too 75-300

yes i put it in my notebook teacher the waterfall fast moving things take big shutter speed and small f stop to freeze in action thank you pop

Ok I will explain it to you what you see on the back display is where the lenses f-stop/aperture is set. The camera itself has no f-stop until a lens is mounted.I dont know Canons but I imagine that the dial will change the f-stop. You have three differnt Modes that are essentially Manual modes one is Manual itself, then there is Aperture Priority and then Shutter Priority. If you use shutter Priority and say set the speed to 1/35 with the ISO manually set to ISO 100 then the camera will adjust the Aperture for you. Or you shoot in Aperture Priority and stop the lens down to the highest number the camera will set the shutter speed. In Manual you set both Shutter and Aperture till your meter in the view finder is at or near the middle. Wether you use the middle depnds on the camera as to wether it over exposes or under exposes.
