astro-photography

I have been a photographer and amateur astronomer most of my life. I now want to get involved with astro-photography. My question-?-What would be the best DSLR for this purpose?
All suggestions welcome.

I'd say a Nikon D3100 or a Canon 5D Mark 2.

I wanted to get into that but was told you need to spend nearly $10,000 grand on telescope that would get you anywhere near any planets.

Well it really depends on how you plan on shooting. Do you plna on piggybacking the camera to the tube? What is your scope type? It makes a difference on ease of getting better. Or do you plan on shooting through the telescope? If you piggyback it then you will need longer glass as well as short for wide field shots. Oh and what type of mount do you have for your scope and is it motorized? What you really have to consider is the weight of the camera and, the ISOs of the cameras. If you plan on long exposures the other thing to look into is the amp noise of each model at a given ISO. It is worse on some cameras and it varies. For astrophotography the CCD cameras are still king. The thing is the prices on the dedicated cmaeras has really come down alot.
