Does this work? Can the image be improved, and if so, how?

Oooh I do like this. The only suggestion I can think of is perhaps using a reflector to get rid of the shadow underneath the hat. Nicely done, though! :judge:

I agree with Leilanee. A little more light on the face (but not much) would be better. But other than that I really like this shot.

I think it works well overall. The pose, the facial expression, and the attitude they convey is perfect for a Marine. I disagree about getting rid of the shadow. It belongs there. That's how marines and soldiers wear their hats and it casts a shadow. No shadow = not authentic. I suppose you could lighten it a bit to reveal a bit more eyes, but just a little bit.

If the guy in uniform is a client, it's important that the uniform is impeccably correct. That buckle alignment looks off just a bit. Lining it up w/ the shirt could also help to hide some of that bright brass tip behind a belt loop.

Yeah, the shadow belongs. It was a completely overcast day, anyway, and there was no light to work with. Flash would have just been wrong. I will probably try to brighten the area a bit to bring out his eyes, as I'd like to see them more.

As for uniform, yes. I asked him to volunteer and he graciously agreed. There are a few things I see now that I should have fixed. Good eye spotting the belt buckle and belt tip. Details, details!

I have a promise from him to get him in dress blues with the sword (presuming he's earned it by then), next time he's home. I'm looking forward to that!

I look forward to seeing it!

And yes, sorry, I should have clarified: don't remove the shadow, but seeing more of the eyes would be nice. That was what I intended to say
