Canon 350D focus points

Good day everyone!

I am still new (almost 1 year going) to photography.
My Canon 350D, as you know only has 7 focus points, and I am having some trouble with them.
It seems like the points are not as accurate as I would like them to be. The centre focus point seems to focus (very slightly) just below itself. I get this a lot. Same happens if I select another focus point. I mainly shoot with my Sigma 70-300 lens.

How far beyond the square box of your selected focus point, does the camera still look for the sharpest contrast?
Is this better with newer models which has more focus points?

Is it the lens perhaps?

Thank you
Richard

So the marks in the viewfinder don't correspond to the actual focus points? It sounds like a calibration issue. Has the camera always been like that, or maybe it was dropped at some point and something shifted slightly?

You could take it to a repair shop, but I don't know if that makes any sense from an economic point of view. It might cost several hundred dollars to have a technician look at it, or you could get a new 1100D body for $400 & change. Couldn't hurt to call a repair shop and ask.

I don't think the issue is the number of focusing points. I think its an issue with your particular copy.

The focus screen, which is what the focus point boxes are on, could be slightly out of whack, but it's also true that with many Canon DSLRs the center focus point is larger than the box in the viewfinder indicates.

Thank you for the input.
I've never dropped it, but I'll try and find someone with a newer model, and practice a bit on theirs to see what the actual difference is.
This is not crucial, but slightly annoying
:)
