a month from now i'm gettin a new lens but i'm confused with this two lens. 70-200mm f2.8L IS or 70-300mm f4-5.6L IS.. i got 24-70f2.8L and 50mm f1.8 and 7D..

The photograph itself doesn't interest me. I want only to capture a minute part of reality. ~Henri Cartier Bresson

Most professional portrait photographers who do either Weddings, Portraiture or Events own the 70-200 L IS as their "go to" lens. I would be lost without it. It's even best for shooting large groups if you have enough room to back up because it compresses the background. When you shoot it at f/2.8, it virtually isolates the subject from the background. You will find this "faster" lens invaluable and a great complement to your two other "fast" lenses. FYI, you could subsequently get the 1.4X Extender to make this a 380mm f/5.6 on the long end.

Different lenses are used to solve different problems. I own a 15mm f/2.8 fisheye, 24-70 mm f/2.8, 50mm f/1.4, 85mm f/1.2, 70-200mm f/2.8 L IS, 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 L IS, 500mm f/4, 1.4X and 2.0 X Extender.

You mean the 70-200 2.8L IS II?

That's one of Canon's best lenses. The Mark I version isn't as good (it's still ok, but the 70-200 F/4L IS is sharper at f/4). The Mark II is extremely sharp, like a prime lens.

When I had one (before switching to Nikon) I also had a 200 2.8L prime lens. The 70-200 2.8L IS II is just as sharp as the 200 2.8L prime. :o

Here's a comparison I did between the two.

For those Nikon guys, the 70-200 2.8VR II is just as good as the Canon. ;) Trust me.

70-200mm f2.8L IS on EOS 7D makes it 112-320mm. And 70-200mm f2.8L IS is a extremely good lens.

Yes you won't regret it. The Mark II is an excellent lens.

This is a good reminder - I want to try using my telephoto more to compress the background. I have always found it awkward to have to back up so far with a bigger group. It makes it harder to notice things that need fixing, and even harder to coach clients to do something differently.

I think I will try with couples and just let them be together, and try for more candid, without having to shout back to much direction :)
