I'm a newbie and I'm wondering if there's a way to fit a manual lense to T3i?

Hello! I'm just new in DSLRs and I have the Rebel T3i. Apparently, I've just been given an old 55mm f/1.2 manual focus lens, now the two pieces don't fit. What's there to do??? I'm sorry, I don't have anywhere to ask.. Thanks!!

How old is the lens? Canon used to manufacture what they called an FD mount; their newer cameras and lenses are EF mount. I think there might be adapters to use an FD lens on an EF camera body - I have some older Canon and I'm not sure if they're compatible with the digital cameras or not.

Some Canon lenses are breech lock, which have a locking ring that you have to turn to put on and tighten, or loosen and turn to remove the lens.

Canon also made some cameras and bodies that are FL mount but I don't think those are too common.

The adapters for those old Canon mounts have a lens built in to project the focal plane back to the EOS sensor. This has a magnification effect, the same as a teleconverter. Really not a good solution, unless you have a pet antique lens that you just have to use. There are very simple (cheap) adapters, without any lens inside, to allow the direct use of old lenses by Nikon, Olympus, and Pentax on today's Canon bodies. I have such an adapter to use my old OM mount lenses with my 50D. It works, but I don't really use it very often because I much prefer auto focus.

That makes sense Kelly. I have a couple of FD mechanical cameras and the diameter of the EF is quite a bit larger, so I don't know how an older lens would work with a Canon digital. Depends on how old a lens we're talking.

Note the lens inside. Without that correcting lens the old FD lens cannot focus to infinity.
