For photographers eager to get their hands on the brand new Canon EOS 6D DSLR , here is a great mobile app that takes advantage of its built-in Wi-Fi capability: a free EOS Remote app for smartphones for use on the 6D over its built-in WiFi feature. The app will have two modes: one for operating and shooting the camera remotely, and another for instant viewing and playback of captured images. Remote operation seems to offer superior control of the 6D, with the ability to adjust manual settings such as aperture, ISO, and focus points by using your phone’s touch screen. Playback will allow users to view JPG versions of their photos and transfer select images to their phones.

Available for download on both iPhones and Android devices, the app functions very easily without the need to tether. This new app, combined with the 6D’s built-in GPS receiver will allow for superior and immediate post-processing of photos. The app is demonstrated in this quick video by Canon’s Chuck Westall, and is expected to be available for download by the time the Canon 6D is available for shipping.

As Canon’s newest camera body, the 6D is the company’s most compact full-frame DSLR, and the first to come with Wi-Fi capability. Prior to the 6D, Canon cameras required pricey Wi-Fi and GPS add-ons such as the WFT-E6A Wireless Transmitter and Canon GP-E1 GPS Receiver ; the combined value of both add-ons is enough to buy a small DSLR, so the automatic inclusion of these features will be revolutionary for Canon’s DSLR line.

The Canon 6D is a full-frame 20.2 megapixel full-frame CMOS processor with an ISO range of 100-25600. This camera takes after the Canon EOS 60D in its body style and controls, yet also has some of the 5D Mark III’s functionality including silent shutter mode, multiple exposure mode, and in-camer HDR. An 11-point AF sensor, continuous shooting speed of up to 4.5 frames per second, and the ability to record 1080p videos are more features to expect from the 6D. What do you think about the Canon 6D and Canon’s first-ever Wi-Fi capabilities?

A more affordable FF is welcome. For the WiFi remote I would like to see a lot more access. Such as manual focus, DOF preview, camera modes, metering modes, and EV comp.
