5d mark iii refurbished vs buying new

7 years 3 months ago #513539 by EOS_Fan
B&H is selling a 5d mark iii refurbished for $1799 with condition as "8" vs buying it new for $2249.

Would you consider buying the refurbished one and save $450?

I'd spend the extra cash for a new one, YMMV....

Depends on who refurbished it.  If Canon did it, yeah I would put some serious thought into it.

Canon EOS 7D SLR | XT W/18-55 Kit Lens | Canon 50mm 1.8 | Tamron 17-50mm 2.8 | Canon 28-105mm | Canon 75-300mm | Canon 100mm 2.8 Macro | Canon 100-400

I agree that if the refurbisher is refutable, it's worth consideration. However, when your making that sort of purchase anyway, I think that spending the additional 400 dollars or so is definitely worthwhile.

Stick with the new, and have that warranty as safety net.

If it is refurbished by Canon then buy it, they give a new warranty with it.  Take the cash saved and apply to a good (refurbished) lens.  You impress no one by blowing money heedlessly.  But as I said it MUST be mfr refurbished stuff.

Even with Canon refurbished, you could get a body with 20 thousand clicks, and they offer a what, 90 day warranty?  You don't save any big money either, and a lens is entirely different....

Not in the mrket for a new camera, but I'd personally stick for something brand new..Would rather have a fresh start if I'm getting a camera for myself

Another vote for new...

For the sake of less than $500, get a proper warranty...

Also, (not sure on your pricing, versus nz pricing), i'd have to wonder if missing the 5d3 altogether and going 5Ds or 5Dsr wouldn't be a better option for most people...

Our pricing in NZ dollars puts a 5Ds at just $800 over a 5D3.

Newer model, (only one frame per second slower), digic 6, 50MP...

Yeah, if I were going Canon today, I think the 5Ds would be the one....

I'd go with the refurb, as long as it was a mfg. refurb. The lower cost is the deal here as Canon's warranty is the same one year for new or refurb. Add to that the fact that each refurb unit is gone over by a technician whereas only a percentage of cameras are inspected off the line.
