3rd party batteries in Canon EOS R?

Any of you try any of the 3rd party batteries sold on Amazon in your Canon EOS R?

Did you lose any functions?

My experience with third party batteries is I find them sub standard. At one time some cameras or batteries were chipped preventing non branded battery use. There have been discussions here and some believe there is no loss of quality so you might need to give one a try yourself. Check the Amazon reviews....

The problem with Amazon reviews is they are gamed.  :(

Which companies are chipping their batteries?

Nikon 18-55mm VR, Nikon 70-200mm VRII f/2.8, Nikon 50mm f/1.8, Nikon 10.5mm Fisheye, Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8, SB-700 & SB-800

G'day PA

Okay - you're "up there" and I'm Downunder - but the snail mail system still works :)

Each new camera I buy comes with a battery - good enough. For the last 12yrs or more ALL my extra batteries (about a dozen or so) have come from a Melbourne Aus supplier; they are all about 1/3 to 1/2 the price of the OEM battery, they come with a 400-day warranty. I have had one only return in that time - and one failed 12volt charger unit - both replaced immediately at zero cost to me

Look 'em up if nothing else ... www.betterbatt.com.au/

Hope this helps

I would suggest sticking with official Canon batteries rather than 3rd party batteries.

+1 here too  "because"????

I also have distinct memories of the time I purchased my Fuji X-s1 back about 2010 and its OEM battery was swollen and would not fit into the slot.

So OEM stuff can fail too

The use of third party batteries will void some warranties, best to stay with OEM. There is another live thread here at PT on that exact issue.....
Some have no issues but I've also read horror stories.
My experience is this. When I bought my D800, I purchased two extra batteries. My D7100 came a few months later with one and I bought a knock off at a third the normal Nikon price. I mix those EL15 batteries, they fit both cameras. Anyway, that was 2013 and I have all original Nikon branded batteries still in the rotation, while my third party unit went in the trash, dead in 2015.....YMMV.
