Canon 16-35mm f2.8L vs Canon 17-55mm f2.8L on Canon 5D Mark IV

Newbie but not newbie.  Which I guess makes me a newbie!

OK, I just bought a Canon 5D Mark IV.  All I have is a 50mm lens so far.  I'm looking at getting something wide.  I read all over that the 16-35mm f2.8 is super popular.  But what about this 17-55mm?  It's a f2.8 as well and a L lens too.  But it's a fraction of the cost of the 16-35mm.

Is this a good lens?  Or why is there so much of a price difference?

I appreciate the help.

The 16-35 f/2.8 gets better ratings, but what would suit YOUR style best?

Why so serious?

16-35mm is a pure workhorse.  Much better optics and autofocus performance.

The 17-55mm f2.8 is a not an "L" lens, it's an EF-S lens for Canon APS-C sized sensors eg 7D, 90D and would not fit your 5D MK IV.
The 16-35mm is a great lens if a little expensive, a cheaper option would be the 17-40mm, but perhaps not in the same ball park as the 16-35mm.
