Canon 5D Mark IV vs EOS R image quality

4 years 2 months ago #675457 by Mason Latka
I currently have a Canon 5D Mark III and think I'll be making the upgrade in the next 30-45 days.  I'm torn and on the fence between moving to mirrorless, which seems to be where the wind is blowing these days.  Which will require getting all new glass at one point if I don't want to use an adapter.  OR make the natural upgrade to the 5D Mark IV.

If you have a Mark III, would you move to the Mark IV or jump over to the EOS R platform?  Image quality difference?

The difference in image quality is really a moot point when you are talking about this level of camera. Decide on features and ergonomics you prefer and make the decision. Image quality is a wash.

Highly doubt anyone would ever see the difference between 13.5 and 13.6 stops of DR.

You said " I'm torn and on the fence between moving to mirrorless, which seems to be where the wind is blowing these days.  Which will require getting all new glass"

Do you think you are being too influenced by what the expected direction will be in photography?

I am leaning towards mirrorless only because of the weight.

If you love your Mark III then why upgrade?  Or why are you thinking of upgrading?

Did you know you can use your Canon DSLR lens on the Canon mirrorless cameras? You only need an adapter. I tried my Canon EF 24 mm F2.8 on the EOS RP and they worked well  together, no issues.

All the best!

Yup. I'd be happy with thirteen even. I use a body with supposedly 14 stops, I still need to improvise at times. Some expect to great of leaps than tech can deliver.....
