just got a 2nd hand G9, have questions too

I just got a second-hand G9 as a gift. I have no user manual or anything of the like. I'm going to be applying for Graphic Design for school in a couple months. So, I have a lot of leisure time until I start school. I also have a couple of questions about how to use my camera. Maybe someone here also has a Canon Powershot G9? I see a lot of pictures around where people wave lights or stuff around and it makes a streak in the picture. They're able to write words out and stuff. I don't really know how to explain this, but is it possible to do with my camera? If so, how? How can I get really good shots at night? Ones that isn’t too noisy.

Yes, you can do what you are asking about with a Canon G9. A tripod is required and you need to use the M- manual mode. To limit the noise I would set the ISO value low, like 80 or 100, set the aperture to F8 or F11, then experiment with shutter speeds from a few seconds on up.

Also, there are pdf versions of the G9 manual available for download on the internet. Here is an example: rapidshare.com/files/57915200/CUG_EN.pdf.html
