Good all round lens?

Hi All

I am looking to buy a new lens for my Canon 7D, I want to get a wide angle lens. Can anyone make any suggestions about which one is best?

have you used a lens that you have found to be great?

Thanks

Rich

I'm confused. The all around lens for my Canon is the 28-135 that is the kit lens for it. My wide angle is a Sigma 10-20 f/4-5.6, which is hardly an all around lens. What focal length range did you have in mind?

I have the Canon 7D and my all around lens of choice is the 17-50 f2.8. Although I do not have a real wide angle lens at this time, I have been looking at the Tokina mainly because of the reviews it receives. So far my 17-50 has been able to handle the wide aspect that I may need.

I have the 28-135 on my 5Dmii and it's a nice all around lens. As for wide angle I am lacking but would think anything under 20mm would be a wide lens.

Does the 7D have a APS-C sensor? If so... Tamron 18-270 f/3.5-6.3. See sponsors ad below.

This is what drives you crazy .... There are several good responses to the OP (and a couple of valid questions) .... Yet the OP never comes back to the thread they started

The 17-50 2.8 Tamron right?!

For a 7D it depends on how you define "wide angle"

16-35 2.8L is OK 17-40 f4L is almost as good (and cheaper)

Tokina 11-16 is brilliant but more like a prime due to its limited focal range.

Canon 10-22 never impressed me personally.

It is irksome when that happens. However, I have faith in Rich. He has uploaded a number of photos and has a good number of friends. I suspect he will eventually make an appearance and respond to this thread... Color me an optimist.
