Printers to Print-Photos

Im looking into purchasing a printer, starting to toss around the idea. I know you can get decent prints from some very inexpensive printers. But Im looking into a $300 photo printer that can print 13x19 images.

What printers do you use or do you send it all to the lab?

Also what sort of device do you use to cut the prints to correct size?

I love my EPSON Stylus Photo 1400 for printing up to 13 x19, With the Epson papers it does a fantastic job. I bought a cutter board from a craft shop to size down my smaller prints for matting and framing

A home printer is sometimes convenient, but if you want consistent, quality prints...I think it will be cheaper in the long run, to use a good lab.

The printer is only $300...but how much does the ink cost, and how long does it last? How much does quality paper cost? It all adds up.

To cut prints, I use a paper cutter.

I'm with Rob. I also have the Epson 1400 and love it. You won't find anything better without spending a lot more. I've heard many people say that using a good print service is cheaper. That may be true but I like the ability to print my own on demand and play with settings. I need a printer for other reasons too, so it might as well be a photo printer. I don't do a lot of photo printing so the cost doesn't bother me.

Ink tip: If you do purchase an Epson printer, register it and sign up for email promotions. I did and now get regular emails offering ink and paper from the Epson store at 10-15% off, and if I buy enough at a time, a little over $100 worth, there is no shipping charge. Now I wait and stock up when I get those emails. It's cheaper and saves a trip to the store (which doesn't alway have the 1400 ink in stock).
