iMAC 27" for Photography use and Photoshop?

12 years 8 months ago #122775 by Robert Chen
I want to buy new computer and Mac's seem pretty "in". I would like to use as my workstation, and I'm wonder if iMac 27" will be good for heavy lifting programs like Photoshop and Lightroom? Or are these iMac's more of a recreational computer?

Nikon D300 24-70mm f2.8
70-200mm f2.8
50mm f1.4 & 50mm f1.8
105mm f2.8
2 SB800

Photoshop was originally Mac only. Macs run it very well.

The only upgrade you'll need is more RAM. I always max it out.

I have a 27" iMac which I use for Photoshop and many, many other heavy-lifting applications daily.
I have 8GB of RAM in mine, and it screams. So, yes the answer is it would be a perfect workstation.

See if you can get a matte screen not the shiny one. Much better for colour correction.

Never thought about that. How is that so, the technology is the same other than the surface layer is glossy vs matte?

Shiny screens value the image look good over colour accuracy. Don't ask me why I can't tell you. But a good matte display wins for accuracy.
