I just want a printer that's good for printing out quality photos of up to the size of a standard sheet of printer paper.

Printing photos at home can become an expensive habit but I've heard good things about Epson printers. I own a HP and it prints good but you really want one that has individual ink channels so that you just need to replace the one cartridge that is empty. Epson also used to make (maybe still does) a printer that had individual ink wells that you filled with ink, I would look into that as well. HP has some printers that use individual ink cartridges and I'm not sure about Canon.

As far as printing different sizes - that is from the software but for 4x6 or 5x7 you need to tell the printer that that's the size paper that's in it unless you want to use a 8 1/2 x 11 and cut it down.

yeah, i really wouldn't want to waste a whole sheet of paper just for 1 wallet size photo, i saw some nice HP ones at target for under 100 dollars

Remember, the cheaper the cost the cheaper the printer. Meaning, it won't last as long or won't print as well compare to it's expensive models.

Pretty much anything from a brand name (Epson, Canon, HP) specifically designated as a photo printer will give good quality prints. The Epson Artisan 50 is their basic photo printer. I've used an earlier model entry level Epson and was very happy with the print quality. I currently use the Epson Stylus Photo 1400 which can print up to 13" x 19" and is about as good as they get before getting into what I consider the "pro" printers. Epson photo printers also let you print directly onto printable CD/DVDs, which is something other brands don't usually do at the lower price points.

If you want a good photo printer you might need to bump up your printer budget to $200 - $250.
