You'd need to give us more information. What is your Hard drive, gpu, current installed ram, cpu, OS.

Those details would help with providing you an answer. In short, typically ram, or a new hard drive or an upgraded cpu will typically let your system run faster, but think of it like a chain, the weakest link dictates how the computer will run.

More RAM is almost always a good idea. But as stated above, it's important to know your OS type and version, and how much memory you currently have in the system. Disk space doesn't really matter; An SSD will help everything speed up compared to a spinny disk, but that's about the only relevance there.

Your graphics processor is likely irrelevant, if the system is fairly recent. Even crummy on-board graphics can handle basic 2-D work required for most browsing. Of course, if it's on-board graphics, it steals its memory from the system, so you take a hit there, as well.

As has been said, we need more info in order to answer that question. If you are running a 32 bit OS, you will be limited to 4GB max anyway & you also need to make sure the motherboard can handle more RAM (either more slots or adaptable to larger memory boards)

One other thing to look at is the number of programs running "in the background". Closing some of those down can speed up your experience.

Shoot, learn and share. It will make you a better photographer.

8 GB on my current machine & also on the used machine due to be delivered today. The one being delivered, however, is an Intel Core i7 machine with a separate graphics card that I intend to use as my main editing machine...

Windows 8.1 64-bit with 12GB and a older model 4-core i5.

Ideally I would like to have a more recent i7 with 32GB. That will have to wait a while.

One nice improvement for me was adding a 240GB SSD drive for my boot and some editing. It makes a world of difference.

I've been shopping for a SSD drive, which brand did you go with?

I picked up a Samsung EVO 840 from Amazon. My first, no real impression one way or the other. Personally I think write speed is far more important than read speed. Especially for editing.

You should know that they will wear out; they can only accommodate so many writes before the crap out. The Samsung has software that you can use to periodically assess the health of the device.
