PhotoShop discussion

In this digital age, post processing skill is just dominating the necessary photographic skill. Many good photographers are not necessarily a good photoshoper. Once upon a time I considered that there was a big difference between a photographer and a painter because the painter could paint anything according to his imagination but a photographer could not, but in this digital age I think this difference no longer exists. Do you think it is a transformation?

Very interesting discussion! Even though post processing allow even an amateur to make almost pro pictures you still have to know a little about photography or you'll wind up totally messing up the picture instead of making it better.

I think the original idea for coming out with photo editing programs is so even the most basic amateur can have a decent looking photo to share.

All the replies here have validity but also consider a photographer taking the same shot 3 times at different f stops and putting them together to make one photo. Without a program like photoshop then digital photography would just be point and shoot. It's a new age and with new technologies we can make natural art oven better.

I recently got PhotoShop and I am not sure if I understand it. I can't really get it to do any improvements on my photos.

yeah photoshop can be pretty complex if you haven't used it before. There are some good basic photo editors out there that can do pretty much all you need, and they don't cost as much ether. As to the art/photography question, they used to say "a photograph never lies" thats not the case any more!
