Any experience with the Ee-S focus screen for Canon 5D?

I've decided I'm finally going to upgrade to full frame and get my wide angle back. So I hope (very soon) to be ordering a used Canon 5D from KEH.

I was thinking of upgrading the focus screen to the Ee-S. I've read good things about this screen, especially if you are using fast primes (all of my full frame lenses are f/2.0 or faster).

Does anybody have any experience using this screen? Does it really make a difference? Is it difficult to install?

I'm in that annoying position of thinking a lot about a camera that I don't actually own yet. :P

I have the Ee-S in my 5DII. As long as you are using f/2.8 and faster lenses it's the way to go. I don't see the "snap into focus" they describe. Manual focusing would be easier with some sort of focus assist like a split ring or micro-bead ring. But it is brighter. It's not a huge difference, but I notice it in low light shooting. This is actually the old style focus screen. The factory stock screens, designed to be brighter with lenses slower than f/2.8, are the new ones.

I have a split cross screen from slrdaren.com in my old 5D. It's also the old style screen that's brighter with fast lenses. The split cross ring is really nice for manual focusing, but the screen did cost about twice as much as the Canon screen.

Both were very easy to install. They come with a tool and instructions. It just takes a minute or so.

Remember to change the focus screen setting in custom functions.

Thanks for the response!

I find it kind of funny that this question finally got a response today, because I went ahead and ordered the screen and it arrived today. I put it in this afternoon. The difference is not as dramatic as I thought it would be, but I definitely noticed a difference. I like it!

You can see how much difference it makes by setting a fast prime to f/2.8, and using DOF preview. Not much apparent difference in bright light, but it seems more significant in low light. Also less eye strain if shooting for hours in low light.
