Where is Camera Raw accessed from? I always jump right into Photoshop, but heard you can change things up first in Camera raw?

A RAW file is just a negative of all data captured in the shop so to view a RAW file in reality your looking at 1's and 0's, A RAW editor such as PS, DPP will look at the information and dispay it graphically which is the image you see on the screen and allow you to edit there...

I suspect he might mean a photoshop plugin called Camera Raw. as I have not been a photoshop user in a good many years though... perhaps PS7... im not sure exactly where it is found... or even if its still available in these latest CS versions?

That's how I do it, or just double click on the pic. If it's a raw file it opens in the Adobe Camera Raw panel automatically. I always start in Bridge, but I just tried opening a raw file straight from CS4 (without starting Bridge) and the Adobe Camera Raw panel popped right up.

Yup, for me I have CS5 and it works the same.

If you are trying to open a jpeg or tiff in ACR you probably have to start in Bridge. Bridge is the orange icon, or click "Browse in Bridge" under File in Photoshop. In Bridge you will have to use control R or "Open in Camera Raw" to get a jpeg or tiff to open in the ACR panel.
