Are there any Lightroom alternatives that  you can buy a single license and not have to worry about monthly fee's?

I bought Lightroom with a simple license, no periodic fees.

^^^ What he said. Lightroom 5 can be purchased for a one-time cost. The monthly "rent" is only when it's part of the Photographer's package of Adobe CC. Which would include PS CC.

Just go online to Adorama, B&H or Amazon to get yourself a copy.

You can do the same on Adobe's sight if you want to. LR can be purchased either way. PS can't be.

ACDSee can work for general corrections.  But for truly creative work I think LR has the edge.

Yep, LR is worth every penny.

But . . . I do find that the file management side of ACDSee is much more intuitive, easier to live with than LR.  Where LR really shines is in developing presets for working with RAW image treatments.

Lightroom definitely has the major market share, but , even though I anticipate everyone shooting me down in flames here; if you use a Mac, give Aperture3 a look. It's almost Lightroom, cheap, very easy to use and is great for cataloging, filing and retrieving images.
My workflow is: Shoot in RAW / Bridge / Adobe Camera RAW / Photoshop and Aperture.
Keep an open mind.
Cheers,
Neil.

BTW I pay the monthly fee for the entire Adobe suite.

Weirdly LR used to NOT be part of that suite. However, it is now.
