Recommended Lightroom presets

5 years 9 months ago #590186 by Chris Curran
Hey gang,  can you suggest some good presets that work well in Lightroom?  I really need to speed up my workflow.  I know presets can do that, just haven't gone down this path.

Thanks in advance!

I have been skeptical of these presets as a newb. They are everywhere and I feared they might be a waste of money or a scam.

I commonly have to use the brush to apply contrast and sometimes even exposure to my individual subjects.. How well do these work for macro?

I am not a fan of LR presets. You can find free ones that will teach you how to use LR to process your images, and you should create your own. I find that most presets make assumptions about the source image, and unless you happen to shoot exactly like the image used to produce the preset, you're only going to get so far.

Besides, LR isn't difficult to use, and the ability copy/paste settings can make post go pretty quickly.

Finally: get off the railroad tracks, fool.

I must be an older timer here.  What do you mean by "get off the railroad tracks"?

If you watch the video, you'll see the guy is on railroad tracks at one point.

Railroad tracks, in the US, are private property, as well as being very dangerous. There are plenty of articles about people getting hurt because they were taking photos on tracks. One should never shoot on them, even abandoned ones. Bad idea, leads to trouble.

Besides, the leading lines that you get from them are rarely effective. Meh.

I do 90% of my editing in Lightroom Classic and Im looking for some new ideas. Id like to find a good preset pack with a variety of styles that works inside LR; not something like Nik that uses an external application. I want to see how the presets manipulate the curves and settings to produce the looks; kind of like a Youtube tutorial without having to listen to a Youtuber.
