Unable to edit photo in Photoshop from Lightroom?

5 years 3 months ago #626318 by Janet Schlage
I'm on a 2016 Macbook Pro and running latest Photoshop and Lightroom Classic.  I have a set of newborn photos from a client session that I'm trying to edit here.

When I use the 'Edit In' navigation from Lightroom, I select Photoshop as I always do.  The image opens, however all options are not click able and grayed out.

So to summarize, I can edit the images in Lightroom, however when I'm bringing over to Photoshop, I'm not given opportunity to edit them.  This just changed as I was able to edit photos 2 weeks ago.  It's not just one image, I've tried 7-8 images.

What could this be?

Lightroom renders out a file to hand to Photoshop, either a PSD or TIFF file. Which are you creating? What color space? What mode (i.e. 16 bit)?

Once you've popped an image over to PS, can you save it? Can you find it in Finder and see if it is write-only?

Are older images a problem? Or only new ones?

Check the image size in Photoshop if possible. I think the image has been moved or something. You can still edit in LR but it's not the full image in Photoshop. Hard to explain but I think that is what is happening.

It's a known bug with the latest Lightroom ... Adobe is working on it.

The workaround is to have Photoshop open before you click on "edit in Photoshop" while in Lightroom.

That's a Mac-only problem? I'm not seeing that on Windows 10, latest LR Classic / PS 2019.

My mistake ... it was actually a problem with Photoshop, not with Lightroom.  And, according to the link below from Adobe, the problem has been with Windows and it has been fixed with the January 2019 (version 20.0.2) release.

I just tried to duplicate the OP's problem on my MacBook Pro and couldn't do it.  I'm running that Photoshop version 20.0.2 and Lightroom Classic CC version 8.1.  Lightroom > PS > edit > save & back to Lightroom worked smoothly.  So I'm no help.

So, OP, considering the above have you tried to update your software across the board?
