Question about noise and Topaz labs software

13 years 1 month ago #42484 by Hawkins
I just picked up Topaz Labs Adjust 4 and was wondering why is it when I use any of their presets I'm getting more noise in my photo? Do I need to run another filter after this to reduce the noise that was added? How are you all using this?

Thanks!

Topaz adjust presets are VERY aggressive with their processing, to the point it can do just that...add more noise. Try this instead:

First press the "reset tab" button near bottom left, below the preview window.

Now use the the manual controls at the bottom labeled "Exposure", "Colors", and "Details" to do subtle processing changes. The "Noise" control really isn't that great IMO. Best to get Topaz "Denoise" dedicated plug-in or noise ninja if you want to get very precise with your denoising.

Some of those noise programs take some of the sharpness from the photo don't they?

Thanks for the help, I have gotten to point where they don't look as noisey.

I love Topaz Adjust, but it's main functions, enhance detail and even out exposure, tend to enhance noise as well. I've found the best solution is to eliminate as much noise as possible before going into Topaz Adjust. I particularly work on areas of even tone, such as the sky, where it's going to jump out at me.

I am less impressed with Topaz Denoise. Their examples look amazing, but in the real world it doesn't seem any better than any of the other popular noise reduction software (Noiseware Pro, Noise Ninja, Neat Image, etc...), and in some ways more limited.

I agree with that, Topaz Denoise gives similar results to noise ninja and the others. I do think however, it has more control than Adobe's denoising features, so I use it quite a bit.

Yes, but you can tone them down to meet your needs too
