Opinions on Lightroom

I see someone already posted how they feel about lightroom. I didn't want to take over that thread, so any one who uses Lightroom, how do you feel about it?

I have it myself, but still getting used it.

I gave the free 30 day trial a go last year and can see its value, but I have been using regular photoshop since ps7 and didn't want to invest time and money in learning the new work flow. I can get what I want and need from CS5........B)

Why so serious?

Lr is more than an editing app. It's a photo management system from cataloging to print (or web). Worth the time to learn if your goal is to be a pro (Imagine searching without a database).

I added a link for Adobe's own tutorials in the other thread. There were a few things missing in version 1, but now that it can do "local" adjustments, I use it for everything.

Matthew :)

BTW that's what I requested in the beta. To add the few things used in Ps so you don't need to open two apps.

Like Matthew, I use Lightroom for almost everything from import and cataloguing to final product. I even use plugins from The Turning Gate to create and manage my website from directly within Lightroom's web module. Version 3 is avery mature package. Lightroom was designed specifically with photography and a photographer's workflow in mind. Photoshop attempts (very well) to be all things to all types of graphics professionals, but that makes it a bulky and expensive program with a steeper learning curve and with lots of tools a photographer may never use. I stil use Photoshop for layers work, as Lightroom doesn't do that, but everything else is done in Lightroom. I particularly like the fact that all editing is non-destructive. I don't have to make and keep multiples copies of images to try different types of processing.
