PhotoShop: Panoramic Question

To do panoramic in Photoshop, do I take a few pictures side by side and then they stitch them together laterally? How do you make them match up?

New "stitching" software gets better and better. In the old days we had to match certain points. Now it is all automatic.

If you are serious about "panos" consider getting a pano head. It will give you just the right amount of overlap and make it easier for the software to do its job.

Also, be sure to shoot in Manual exposure mode. Otherwise they won't be the same "brightness".

I uses a stitching program using hand held images with about 33% overlap without any difficulty.....

You must shoot in manual focus and manual exposure without a polarizer, best to shoot in the vertical
orientation for landscape. The reason for no polarizer is that the sky tonal range remains constant.
Manual focus because you want the same focus across the image.

CS5 has a great stitching program. Here is a 9 shot stitch that I hand held. I just stood in one place and swiveled. It would have been better with a tripod but I wasn't going to tote one in 120 degree heat. I even screwed up and left the polarizer on. Don't do that. Although CS5 handled the color shift, it would have been better if it didn't have to. Image made at Zabriski Point in Death Valley.
