Pay for second shooter at wedding

I have a wedding coming up that will require another photographer. In the past I have had second shooters that have worked just for the experience, which turned out to be a head ache. I'm curious how do others compensate their second shooters. How are you changing your pricing to the client?

Canon 7D w/grip, Canon 40D, Canon 70-200mm f2.8 IS L Canon MPE 65mm f2.8 macro; Sigma 70-300mm f2.8; Sigma 150mm f2.8 macro; Sigma 8-16mm f4.5-5.6

I don't usually adjust my rate for the customer; my pricing is for 2 shooters to begin with. In rare cases, you might not be able to get a second shooter. If that happens and the couple has a tight budget, I sometimes tell them, "I'm going to scale down to a single-photographer package and give you a discounted rate."

As far as payment goes, it depends on how much you're charging, whether your second shooter will be there the entire gig or just a certain number of hours, and what he/she will be doing. Pay more if they're assisting with lighting and staying the length of the event, as opposed to just shooting at the ceremony and reception and contracted for a certain number of hours.

Once you determine how much your second shooter will be doing, estimate the percentage of actual work that it will come out to -- including the PP that you will be doing. Your second shooter might be doing 10% of the total work, 25% of the total work, etc. So pay accordingly. Of course you may want to adjust a little for the fact that you're the actual photographer and you got the gig - not the second shooter. But you get the idea.

In my case it depends on the package chosen if its a lower end package I usualy pay a second shooter £100 if its the higher end they get £300 and pro rata in between.
