Copy-righted CD's and How to Create Them

11 years 11 months ago #232685 by Deborah
I am about to shoot my first wedding professionally and need to know the legal side of things, to protect myself and the client on the copy-right side of things. How do I create a CD that limits the number of prints the client can make? I need to keep the copy-right in order to use it to post for my portfolio but I still want the client to have sufficient access to prints. Any feedback would be helpful. Thanks in advance! :)

CD's dont work like that. There is no way to "limit" the number of times someone can access a file on them. And thats all printing really is. You access/open the image file and you press print.

You seem to be confused about copyright though. Giving your client a CD of images does not give them the copyright to the images. It simply gives them the ability to print or share online the images.

Legally, the only thing you can do is have them sign a contract. but in the end its unlikely youll ever find out if they say, printed 7 prints instead of the 5 allowed in the contract, for example.

So essentially, if you give them a CD for the purpose of printing themselves, then you lose the ability to control how many prints they make of each image.
