Do you cold call wedding venues to get on their preferred vendor list?

I was thinking about putting a list together of some of the wedding venues around my town and cold calling them to get on their preferred vendor list. First impressions are important. Anyone happen to know what they might ask me? I would like to be as prepared as possible.

Appreciate your help :P

A big part of it is relationship building. What I would suggest is instead of calling these vendors and asking, "Can I be one of your preferred vendors?" I would ask something along the lines of, "I notice you have preferred vendors, how do you usually develop a relationship with them/choose your preferred vendors?" That'll kind of give you a guideline on how to work with them, rather than just asking to be one.

It comes off as less of a "you" thing and more of a "we" thing. Mutually beneficial.

From what I understand, a lot of preferred vendors are people these venues people have already worked with. Networking is big. If I was a venue I wouldn't just add anyone who asked, I would make sure that their business practices are ethical, and that they can demonstrate consistent quality and good client relationships. Someone I knew I could trust to recommend to a bride.

You will not be judged as a photographer by the pictures you take, but by the pictures you show.

I would call and ask. It could be as simple as giving your contact info, or as specific as quoting a price. It doesn’t hurt to make a polite phone call, and you can always get back to them with the information they need if you don’t have the answers. If it works out, it could mean additional business for you!
