Fair price for logo?

To have a logo made what is considered a fair price? I have a company that has quoted me $775 for a 4 color print and web based logo. I'm not sure if this is a good deal or not?

:thx:

Wow. That sounds a bit stiff, but what do I know.

FWIW make sure it translates to greyscale and monochrome.

I found another company who is charging me $275 and I'm supposed to have first copy by Jan 1. This company is a little slower, but much better priced.

That first company sounds like it has a lot of staff, hence the high price. The second sounds better, but as I see it, it is much like the photo biz in that you get what you pay for. Also once completed you do plan on Trade Marking it, correct?

Depends on how many options they'll show you. Graphic design (like photography) takes a lot of skill to do well, hence the high prices and the shock when people get the bill (photography is just pressing a button right?!).

You can get logo's from $50 (or even free) right up to thousands. I worked for a print and design company where they charged $5K + for business branding. There is always that idea that you get what you pay for??? but like photography there are different style's of designer out there and I think it is more important to find a good fit.
