Why did you cut some out and put them on backgrounds?

I found the background generally distracting, Adrian (the only one I liked to see it in is the one I included here), and I thought I needed to deal with it. And, I don't usually do this sort of thing (I'm sure that's not a surpise to you...), so I thought I'd try. Thanks for commenting :)

Not sure what the backgrounds were, but you've done a nice job of cutting it out. Maybe you could have artificially blurred the backgrounds or took a purposefully out of focus shot of something nicer and use it as a background. No one would notice if you did it nice. :)

Great series of shots John, the first one has a lot oif impact but the only thing I would have liked to have seen was the top of the chimney in the water.
the second one is a great job of post processing, you have done a very accurate cut out, I do like the black background it brings out the vivid color.
the third one is the best of the series it is a very powerful and dramatic portrayal of such a delicate subject, the background works perfectly, the perspective adds to the drama, the the focus and the exposure are spot on, great job.
the fourth one I am not sure about, love the flower it looks so unusual, but I dont like the gradation of the shadow from top to bottom and the top is a little blown out, but hey thats just my opinion.

Agree with all you say, David, natch! I, too, like the third one-I was thinking of "Les Coquelicots"...Touche' on the tower top in No1. As for the last, just trying somethng I don't ususally do.

The background for No2 was the same as No3, and I have a couple of edits with the usual blurring and darkening. It really didn't seem to work: too many purposeless leaves and twigs,,And the contrast made a selection fairly easy. Besides, I've been wanting to try the technique. As for putting it on a different image background, I am not there quite yet. I'll learn to accept the idea, eventually...:)

Just for fun, here's No4 on its real background, and one I forgot to post.
