Finally achieved what I was going after with this night shot

I've been working on using a flash to illuminate a subject, in this case the tree, while still keeping the background properly exposed. I realize the tree "looks" like flash was used. But this is with my pop-up flash, -2/3 flash compensation standing about 25 feet away. It was the best I could do under the circumstances. next time I'll try moving back from the tree. My goal was to keep the rich colors of the sky. I need to try this on a person, using my speedlite and see where this takes me. Thanks for looking! :)

Nice try! I agree that stepping further away would make the flash less obvious, and still give you the sky colors:thumbsup:
