Experimenting with my new speedlight

12 years 3 months ago #189837 by LauraD
So yesterday I got a new speedlight, the Nikon SB 700, This is my first speed light and I thought I would try a little experiment with water and food dye. Any suggestions as I am new to flash photography. I staged this with white poster board and used the bounce card that came with the speedlight.

Congrats on the SB700! I still use my 600 and love it. I think the flash output is way to high though. Im assuming you bounced off of the ceiling or wall and in TTL?

I aimed the flash at a piece of white poster board on the wall about 2 -3 ft above and directly behind my set up and used the built in bounce card in TTL.

Try shooting it again without the bounce card. The TTL works by shooting preflash first, so the camera can get the exposure, then fires the flash/shutter. When bouncing and using a bounce card, it can direct quite alot of light onto the subject (at least in my experiences it has).

This was the original after processing it from the RAW version and cropping. The crop may vary from this on the black and white.

Are you using the insert method to upload a shot from your computer?
