Confused Bell Pepper

12 years 2 months ago #194925 by Joiemagic
Saw this bell pepper in the deli and couldn't resist buying it, just so I could take some photos of it. Started to experiment with the lighting and came up with these... I call it a Confused Pepper because it doesn't know what color it wants to be.

Feel free to comment...

Did some more photos tonight, just gotta go thru them...

Really Cool shot! Makes one want to run out to the store and look for a pepper. What was your light setup?

You will not be judged as a photographer by the pictures you take, but by the pictures you show.

The lighting in all but the last one was underneath the pepper. I had the pepper resting on top of a flashlight that was wrapped by a black shirt. In the last shot, which was actually one of my first shots, the flashlight was behind the pepper.

Funny thing is, I was actually looking to get a glow around the pepper using separation lighting by having hte flashlight in the back, but found that I was getting the glow really within the pepper. So I started playing around with that concept. In the third photo, with the flashlight under the pepper, I actually flipped the room light on and off during the exposure to get the stem lit up. The first photo, I do believe I fired my handheld speedlight manually during the exposure. I was just experimenting throughout to see what worked.

The hardest part of the shots with the flashlight under the pepper was wrapping the flashlight so that I did not have much light seeping through at the base of the pepper. That and getting the pepper balanced on the flashlight.

Thanks for asking.
