I find the other have are cluttered and blend in the background or are dark such as the truck parked on the street. 
You will not be judged as a photographer by the pictures you take, but by the pictures you show.
Sometimes, it is better to really look at your surroundings. Even when there are not so pleasing backgrounds, by simply moving a little left or right or just changing the angle of the shot, you can really make a so-so picture POP. Take your time (when possible) and the possibilities will come to you.
