Dealing with crowds at weddings

I'm not a very pushy person and I feel like you kind of have to be at weddings especially when it's the daddy/daughter dance, cake cutting, and other times when people crowd around in a small area. I've had so many occasions where someone with their own camera tries to cut in front of me and I think... How rude! You go to a wedding where someone is paying a professional and then you get in their way, it's rude to me, and it's rude to my clients.

How do you all handle these kinds of situations while maintaining professionalism?

If you cant handle them then you are not being professional, right from the start you let everyone know YOU are in charge of the photography, you speak loudly and firmly but pleasantly, you instruct you dont ask, within the first half hour the guests should all know exactly who you are and that you are in charge.

Ha! Sounds like I need empowerment lessons or something. Yeesh. It's not that bad, and not that often, but every once in a while I just encounter some forces to be reckoned with. Doesn't help that I'm quite small in stature! lol.

Ha. I need this power at clubs. Whenever I go dancing my friends and I automatically become the walkway for every drunk jerk that wants to get into the middle or up to the front.

Maybe I can bring my camera and just start whacking!

"Scuse me! Scuse me! Photographer at work! Move out of the way, I'm dancing!"

I agree with David on this one, when someone gets in my way I politely tap them on the shoulder and say excuuuuuuse me but I have a job to do and you are in the way !!
