A very respectful first attempt of a difficult situation as lighting glassware is a challenging form of photography.

Rule #1 in shiny object photography is to NEVER point a light at it.  I would like to see the lights further forward to light the front of the lemons and flower.  Setting up a couple white reflecting strips either side of the table top and pointing the light at them will define the edges of the glass without highlights.  Placing a dodger behind the white strips will block the rest of the room from appearing in the glass. You also need more DOF.

As far as composition, I would get rid of both the whole lemons and the not open flower and put the open flower next to the cut lemon.

Just MHO.

Agree with DSRay and for me the main problem with this picture is lack of light - it's underexposed. I don't know if you've used tripod but if you don't have enough light it will help you to make longer exposure to get more details from the shadows.

If your intention was abstract, then OK but if not: who drinks water with lemon and flower? Especially that it's not lemon flower :) For me they just don't match.

The lemons and the daisies were just what i had by hand. I started with the daisies, switched them for the lemons and this is what i finally ended up with. But i get your point. :) Got the idea of starting to photograph more "realistic" drinks to practise and try to apply the points DSRay commented to me. If i get some results i will post them. Thanks for commenting!

So this is my second attempt. I tried to diffuse the light of my flash with a handmade softbox and putting it behind a curtain. Furthermore i tried to put highlights with a reflector. Not sure if i made any progress.
I am not happy about the results of the reflector and either with the DOF. Wonder if the lack of DOF has to do with the limitations of myself or with the lens...

depth of field and composition. remove the 2 lemons. you also have to experiment for a better taste of artistry.

looks like you are trying hard to be so artistic. doesn't look natural.
