G'day mate

Nicely done with the verticals ... yes, good detail and separation between each tree
Q- are the trees diseased? or have they been killed prior to harvesting?

It's a combination of factors but mostly a) a bug called Borkenkäfer (I don't know the English word) that get under the bark and b) lack of water.

Thanks mate
It translates to "bark beetle" .... and we Downunder have our own biosecurity worries about a bark beetle being brought into Australia inside a cargo of some sort and destroying our soft-wood plantations

Being a giant island Aus does not have the many northern-world pests and so we do not have local already available predatory insects to fight incoming pests ... and so the multi-million dollar efforts exist to keep things 'safe'

This beetle is decimating our forests. Huge open patches everywhere that used to be denses wooded. Oddly, it is only attacking the trees that have been planted for forestry purposes so there is a big push to let the forests brow back in their original form i.e. with only native species. As far as the beetle goes, you can't kill it so the idea is to the let the trees it feeds on die out after which the beetle will die out too.
