Men Of Honor

Charles will appreciate this... as will other veterans and bike lovers..
Yesterday a small group of bikers (former Marines) stopped for breakfast at a local spot before heading South for a tribute ride - for a fallen Marine KIA in Afghanistan. This bike was incredibly beautiful and the details outstanding.. the guy must own a CNC machine.. or have ready access to one.. They invited me to join them in Jordan, NC yesterday and meet all the other bikers, Marines, and vets but, alas, I had other commitments.. I'd love the opportunity to shoot this bike again in an isolated area with better lighting...

Harley-Davidson Men Of Honor

Places of famous Marine battles - Belleau Wood, Iwo Jima, Guadalcanal, Chosin Reservoir, Da Nang.. the wheel is etched with names like the Vietnam Wall in DC..

Everything on this bike is engraved, etched, or painted..

Dogtags mounted on the tank - each one stands on raised pegs..

The lids of the saddle bags are stamped with names like the Vietnam Wall.. the exhaust pipe ends are Gatling gun replicas..

Great looking bike. You have me missing our local BikeFest already. The veteran biker group that is gaining a lot of popularity is Rolling Thunder.

Rolling Thunder began in 1987 as a demonstration to bring awareness to the plight of prisoners of war (POW) and to those missing in action (MIA). Rolling Thunder originated when four Vietnam Veterans, exercising the First Amendment "Right to Petition and Assemble", organized the first group of 2500 motorcycles to ride through the streets of Washington, DC. This first Rolling Thunder run was made in an attempt to petition the government to take responsibility for the soldiers that were abandoned after the Vietnam War ended.

Today over 250, 000 motorcycles ride during the Rolling Thunder Memorial Day weekend observance, held each year in our nation’s capital. Rolling Thunder has evolved to be not only a demonstration for the POW/MIA issue but also a demonstration of patriotism and respect for soldiers and veterans from all wars.

:agree: I love what Rolling Thunder has done and continue to do.. and The Patriot Guard Riders who attend military funerals both to honor and respect but also to keep the Westboro loonies from infiltrating. I contacted a chapter of PGR to make sure they were going to be at the funeral for a very close friend's son KIA in Iraq.. they were!
