Maybe you had the noise reduction on in the camera. If that is on, it will take awhile to record the image.
Bingo!... That seemed to fix it. Noise reduction and high ISO noise reduction turned on in standard takes >20 seconds to record a shot in RAW and JPG... noise filters turned off = <5 seconds. Nice catch Brookie.
