Unlaid Tracks

Have my weekly photo contest to enter next week with the topic being "Railroad Tracks". Had a recent subway photo I took (posted in another topic here) in mind to use but was driving about half a mile from my house yesterday and came across where they were working on the elevated tracks, replacing old track with new... Here are some of the "yet to be laid" tracks sitting on the ground.

How unique a photo will one of these be in this contest?

And one more question, which do you prefer? I know I have my favorite, but want to get some thoughts from others...

The one that's second from the bottom is real interesting. I think if you crop the bottom a bit (I just scrolled down a bit on my monitor) it would bring the viewer's eye even more to the tracks going off into the distance. Then the viaduct keeps going, parallel to the tracks, and the branches across the top frame it. I think that would be worth thinking about, sometimes just a tiny bit of adjustment can make for a stunning photo.

I also like both the second and third ones down, but I actually think the third one has a bit more interesting perspective. I like it being a bit off center and the bend in the metal gives it a bit more visual interest I think. Nice use of that with the opening in the background that takes you visually along the track.

You obviously spent some time on these and were really seeing what was there in a different way. These all have potential and are a good series. This is about your best yet.

Thanks everyone... Well, I can say you have all narrowed it down to the three I was thinking of... Now gotta narrow it down to one... I was kinda partial to #1 because of the shallow DoF in the background with the sharp focus on the Rail leading you into the photo.

But, I do like now what icepics said about #6 (second from bottom).

Decisions, Decisions...

IMO, #1 is the best by far. It has the best color and texture.

I still have one more day before submission... I am feeling I gotta go with my gut... and take my first choice.... #1... Unless someone can give me a reason to select either #2 or #6. Those are what I am down to...

I do really appreciate everyone's comments and thoughts on this set... Thanks

Looking at them on Flickr the first one looks quite different, has a much more interesting perspective, the track almost towers... helps to see them in that format (I know there's a size limit as to what you can post here). I still like 6 but maybe w/a bit of a crop of the foreground to bring the viewer along the track into the distance. Good to get opinions but you need to go with what is right for you. Good luck.

I'm torn between 1 and 2. I think 1 is a bit more unique so I would vote for that.

Shoot, learn and share. It will make you a better photographer.
