I've been reading & watching video's on photography... so went out yesterday to put into practice what I've been learning. Out of 150 pics I only got about 6 decent pics, but I'm very excited so wanted to share.... All comments welcomed :)

I used a tripod for the bridge and the ship, however I did notice that the camera still shook.... Are they all out of focus? I guess I should try to manually focus.

No, they are not all out of focus; the bridge is in better focus (from here).

Depending on your camera and if it has several focusing
points, auto focus is good, esp from a distance such as this.
Maybe more DOF? .... this time of day is tricky alright.
Try bracketing different exposures from f8 on up.
If your on a tripod the slower shutter speed are good for
the moving waters in the foreground.

I'm glad to know your using your tripod.

Keep up the good work . . . . . . :beerbang:

3 and 4 are my faves well done for braving the manual mode, it only gets better from there. :judge: :judge: :judge:

Welcome to the club! I just started manual myself. I too take a gozillion shots for a few to be presentable. BUT, we keep struggling along!

You might think about how you're framing your shots too. I noticed with the first one that just scrolling the photo down a bit on my monitor so it 'cropped' a bit of the foreground, it brings the eye more along the bridge as it goes off into the distance. If something in the foreground (or elsewhere sometimes) seems to be sticking up more than looking good in the photo, it might help to change your vantage point a bit.

EXCELLENT POINT! I never thought of that , but I just did the "scroll" (down to 1/2 of the first pillar, & the bridge looks great like that. Thanks for teaching this old dog a new trick.

You're welcome. I got pretty good at reframing shots and changing the vantage point when I was taking pictures for marketing for a local team... Had to make those empty seats 'disappear', don't want the sponsors to see that!! lol

I think it would look better keeping the trees/branches on either side, you did well framing the image with those, just maybe take some off the bottom.

I'd even keep the trees on the left and right in the photo, just along the bottom that railing and twigs seem just to be distracting more than anything.
