Sometimes when you are out for a drive, you see a potential shot just waiting to happen. So you swing the car around and shoot.

I like the original, it's a real nice composition which you do well. I'm not sure it's the best image for B&W. Once you remove color, this looks like it's going to give you a lot of grays and ended up looking rather dark.

I learned (when making prints) that there should be a 'black-black' and a 'white-white' somewhere in the image - which is easier to show than explain (and if you didn't have that the instructor sent you back to work on your photo some more!). Then to adjust from there - I find this works for me most of the time. This would probably work better if there was some true black in the tree trunks and some true white in the house, but it doesn't look to me like it's there.

I haven't been a big fan of conversions, and have tried it with some of mine and didn't like the results. I think it might be because I don't like how the program determines the tones. I've done better removing color in Photoshop rather than converting to B&W.

I think the original makes a difference too. When I"m shooting B&W I try to look for some nice contrast in lights and darks in the scene as that seems to make for a better B&W picture.

The sepia I like better but it looks a bit almost orange-y, again it's probably that the original seems to be a lot of mid-tones.
