It is better on flicker view. I think you did well here, not an easy task with that moon in the shot...... ;)

Why so serious?

Unfortunately, the post here is too dark to really see the more subtle details and light. But I like the effect. Thanks for commenting, Ernesto.

I would enjoy seeing more detail in the lower portion of the shot (looking at flickr). The sky/stars/lighthouse are very cool.

An interesting shot, I'm torn between wanting more detail as mentioned or just using my imagination which is preferable the longer i look at the picture. The Flikr one I mean. I sometimes agree with the idea that some of the most interesting pictures do not leap out at you, that you need to look and ponder a while. We make up our own stories in the main given a choice.
Good post John.

Thanks to all, first of all, for taking the time to look and compare.
This is a 9 shot HDR sequence, taken a bit after 10pm. I wanted to capture the scene as I saw it, with only the moon and sky light, and Cape Cod light itself providing illumination. I experimented with bringing out more detail in the shadows, but it would only appear natural if I also brought up the overall exposure, which would not make the image true to the subject as seen at that moment. So I tried to render the quality of moonlight on the railing and the open area on the left, and tweaked variously to try and capture the eerie feeling of te place. That was my intent, anyway. The exposures were set manually, from .4 sec to 25 sec at f/5.6 with a 70-200mm f/2.8 lens, Nikon D3s @ ISO1000.
Thanks again for your time and comments!
