I Am Addicted To Layers and Textures, Here Are Some Pics

I fell in love with layers on day one. Now I find myself adding textures over textures and layers on layers. Has anyone else been bitten with this bug? Here is some of my work. Thoughts? THANKS!

As you can see, the first photo and the second both share a texture, and the second and the 3rd share a texture. I joined several groups on Flickr that offer free textures and have been feeding my addiction that way.

I'm probably more addicted to prescription pain meds, but I do love layers. I got Lightroom 3 some time ago, and I like the program, but I am so used to layers in PS I rarely use the LR........ ;)

Why so serious?

The third one of the tree is an interesting effect, I don't care for the layers as much in the first two, it makes me think of looking thru water droplets. That scene of the barn has interesting texture as it is without the layering effects and I think is a great subject and a nice composition.

Lightroom seems to be popular but the effects being used on photos seem to get overdone, I think the effects it creates tend to overpower a photo.

For me, the tree works. The other two, not so much.

In #1, are the birds reflected? If so, that would be great shot without the additions. It's got nice strong elements in the wheel, grass, siding.

FWIW, I subscribe to "less is more." Or, "just because you can doesn't mean you should."

And, personal issue, I'd prefer a level horizon.

I think layers and textures are underappreciated. You are making art. It's more complex then standard photography.

I have been known to dabble in some photo layers. ;) :)

Personally I like it! This technique is meant to art and won't appeal to everyone, so do it for yourself first and don't worry about the critics. I also played around with it, but have gotten more into HDR lately.

I absolutely love editing, and layers and textures bring a lot to the game.

And editing software is a godsend in that it allows us to do and undo...weighing artistic value and function.

I like the second and third photos above very much. I like the weightiness and the intensity of blue in that second shot. Very nice contrast which serves to emphasize the dilapidation of the building.
