My Cannon 10D (2004 but still takes excellent photos after 20K+ images) came with a EF 24-85mm lens (f/3.5-4.5 USM) which works great for a wide variety of landscape images.

Hope this helps,

I'd go with something like a 10-20mm

You don't mention the camera body that you use so I'll make this list a general one. It would also be helpful to know which lens (lenses) that you already have.

In most cases wider is better for landscapes, when you have big wide vistas. Here are some thoughts, not so much recommendations for Canon

Widest - These are fun lenses but take some getting used to and not what I would recommend for a first landscape lens .... real wide angle zooms that at times can even include your feet in an image!
Canon 10-22
Tokina 11-16

More typical wide zoom lenses and the focal lengths that I would recommend as a starting point
Canon 16-35
Canon 17-40
Canon 17-55
Canon 18-55
Tamron 17-50

In some places the landscape vistas are not wide wide and at those times the mid range zoom lenses can be used
Canon 18-135
Canon 24-85
Canon 24-70
Canon 24-105
and I use the Canon 70-200 many times as well

I dont know canon lenses but if you're just starting out, any zoom lens w/a wide range from low mm focal lenght to a higher mm focal length. Then later you can concerntrate on buying higher quality lenses as you progress. Used is a great way to go. You can find some real good quality used lenses for cheap on ebay and KEH.com. I have not bought a brand new lens in over.......... well, i dont think i've ever bought a brand new lens lol. You can save alot of money buying used and get some really good products.

I use a 18-135. I like using a zoom lens compare to a prime lens for landscapes.

All of the above advise is right on target though I have used up to and including a 300mm telephoto as a landscape lens to get pix in Alaska and Colorado. my favorite is a 24-70mm zoom

I have a Canon 50D and shoot lots of landscapes. My walk-around lens is a 24-105 L IS, but for landscapes, I also carry a 70-200 f/4 L IS, a 50mm f/1.4 prime and a Sigma 10-20. Hope this helps.

I recently did some night cityscapes with my 18-35 zoom and have to say I liked the results as much as the ones I took with the 24-70 zoom

If it's on a crop Canon, I've just got the Canon 15-85 with my new 7DII...

Nice and wide and I used to have the 17-85 which I did like...
