It just depends. Vivitar is more of a brand name than a manufacturer. They take stuff from many manufacturers, some better than others, and put their label on it. I've been happy with my Vivitar flashes. They aren't fancy, but they work as they are advertised, and they are durable yet inexpensive (I've only used the older style manual flashes, nothing from Vivitar for AF or TTL). I guess I would thoroughly investigate the lens and try to find image samples. A quick google search turns up several threads on Flickr that talk about this lens.
