B+W vs Hoya filters

Any opinions on which is a better filter?

*Overall or if granular let's talk about polarized filters

In general B+W is considered top of the line. They are made by Schneider Kreuznach, optics manufacturers on par with Zeiss. Hoya is good quality, but usually considered more middle of the road.

Back in my film days I was able to borrow my mentor's filter case full of B+W, and compare them (test shots and prints) to my Hoyas and Tiffens. I did not see a difference, and my mentor agreed. But that doesn't mean there wasn't a difference. It just wasn't one important in the way I shot. My mentor speculated that if we were to do color testing the B+W would likely be more color neutral.

I own a few B+W filters that came on classic cameras, but none fit my DSLRs. I've been happily using Hoya on them. They seem like a reasonable compromise between quality and price to me.

I have a couple of each. Hoya does have some pretty inexpensive ones that don't compare to much. If you spend the extra bucks to get Hoya's upper line, they are made pretty nicely. But still B+W makes a pretty sweet filter.

Tough call, but I would have to say B+W

I was just looking at B&H yesterday, and noticed the price for B+W wasn't as much over the other main brands as I seemed to remember.
